How We Give Back

The Carmel FOP Lodge 185 Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) that donates to various local and national charitable organizations.

Holiday Food Basket Fundraiser

2023 marks our 44th consecutive year for our food basket fundraiser.  

Each year the lodge conducts a solicitation campaign to raise money from the residents and businesses in Carmel to help feed less fortunate families in Hamilton County during the holidays.  With help from the community, the FOP supplies food boxes at Thanksgiving and Christmas to those in need. These food “baskets” (large cardboard boxes) contain all the trimmings for a traditional holiday dinner including a large ham or turkey, potatoes, stuffing, mac-n-cheese, rice, fruits and vegetables, cereal, and drink mix.

We are trying to initiate a “go green” approach by collecting updated information from everyone so that we can send future food basket information in electronic form which will save us postage and allow us to support our programs more.

For 44 consecutive years Carmel Police Officers and the Carmel FOP has partnered with the Good Samaritan Network to provide 34,750 boxes of food (including 1,000+ boxes in each of the last 4 years) to hungry families!  The Good Samaritan Network picks up the food boxes after officers, their families and volunteers pack the boxes on an assembly line and load them onto a truck.  The Good Samaritan Network then uses their database to ensure there is no overlap or shortfall for those who are truly in need.

 

For the last 4 years we have also partnered with our local 96th Street Sam's Club. Sam's Club has gone above and beyond to help us obtain all the food that goes into the food baskets. Since we are getting our food from Sam's Club, it has made it possible to put larger quantities of food into the food baskets at the same prices we were paying a local grocery store for a smaller amount of food. 

 

Along with helping us with pricing, Sam's Club has also provided us a grant each year which is used to help pay for the food.  They have been a great addition to our Food Basket Program.

Once we receive your donation, our Foundation will will mail your receipt, and include a NEW 2024 FOP Booster decal (similar to the ones pictured below, with the current year in the middle) that affixes to the outside of your vehicle’s window or business to proudly show your support of your local law enforcement officers! Donors will receive a high quality reflective sticker that is easily seen day or night!

 

We feel it's important to recognize our top supporters so we now have Gold, Silver and Bronze levels of sponsorship.
